Betting activity on snowfall this Christmas will now start to increase, an expert has suggested.
Rupert Adams, spokesman for William Hill, made the prediction after the bookmaker accepted its first three-figure bet on Xmas snow in Glasgow.
With odds at 6/1 for snowfall in the city on Christmas Day, the bookies took a bet of £100.
"Scotland has had its first snow, which always acts as a catalyst for white Christmas betting, Mr Adams said.
Odds for a snowy Christmas in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff and Liverpool all currently stand at 8/1.
According to the Met Office, the chances of a white Christmas were higher in the 17th and 18th centuries - before Christmas Day was effectively moved back by 12 days by the change of calendar in 1752.
The last white Christmas was in 2004 and Britains cultural fascination with the phenomenon links back to the so-called little ice age period experienced between 1550 and 1850, the Met Office added.
