Political broadcaster John Sergeant has emerged as a surprise contender to win this year's Strictly Come Dancing.
Despite being an early favourite for elimination on BBC1's celebrity contest, the 64-year-old has proved popular with viewers and it seems many are now backing him to triumph on the dancefloor.
William Hill now makes Sergeant 33/1 to win, with spokesperson Rupert Adams stating that the former ITN political editor is "quickly gaining cult status" with fans of the show.
Coral's David Stevens voiced similar sentiments last week, telling the Telegraph: "We thought John Sergeant would struggle to survive past week one, but clearly he has plenty of fans voting for him."
Ladbrokes rates Sergeant's chances at 40/1, while he is priced at 50/1 with Betfred.
Gary Rhodes became the latest contestant to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night, after the celebrity chef's jive with partner Karen Hardy failed to impress the judges.
Austin Healey remains favourite to win the show, with several bookmakers offering 2/1 on the rugby star.
