Punters 'still betting on McCain'
US presidential candidate John McCain is still attracting interest in the betting market, despite recent indications he is losing the battle with Democrat rival Barack Obama.

With less than two weeks until the election, William Hill has revealed that it continues to receive "a steady stream of bets" on the Republican at 5/1, although Obama remains the strong favourite at 1/9.

Last week, Paddy Power suggested that the race for the White House had become a foregone conclusion when it decided to stop taking win-only bets on the election.

However, the bookmaker is still offering a 'Battleground Six-pack' special, in which punters can bet on how many of six selected states won by George W Bush in 2004 will be retained by McCain.

The states are Colorado, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, with all six priced at 25/1 and none 10/11.

Early voting is already underway in Florida and North Carolina, with a record turnout predicted at polling stations across the US by Tuesday November 4th.
