One bookmaker has slashed its odds on David Beckham winning a record number of England caps due to claims he is poised to join AC Milan on loan.
According to a statement from the Italian giants, Beckham is expected to move to the San Siro from LA Galaxy in January, although some details are yet to be finalised.
"Our squad is ultra-competitive, but Beckham offers something different and intriguing," said Milan's vice president Adriano Galliani.
The announcement saw William Hill cut its odds on the 33-year-old midfield star surpassing Peter Shilton's record haul of 125 England caps from 12/1 to 6/1.
Beckham has been restricted to a number of substitute appearances in recent England games, leading to speculation that he does not feature in manager Fabio Capello's long-term plans.
However, William Hill's Rupert Adams admitted that a move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe is likely to improve Beckham's fortunes at international level.
"He is certainly doing everything in his power to ensure he is match fit. He could go on and on," the spokesperson said.
Beckham currently has 107 England caps - one less than Bobby Moore, the most-capped outfield player.
