White Christmas odds slashed on snow forecast
|
Betting firms have cut their odds on a white Christmas after weather forecasters predicted a series of snow showers in the UK this weekend.
According to William Hill, its white Christmas betting market has seen unprecedented activity already this year, with many punters anticipating festive snow in British cities.
Today (November 21st), the Daily Mail advises UK residents to prepare for "an Arctic blast of blizzard conditions and freezing temperatures" hitting the country this weekend.
Parts of Scotland and north-east England have already received heavy snowfalls, prompting a renewed interest in white Christmas bets.
As a result, William Hill has slashed its odds on Christmas snow in London from 8/1 to 6/1, with Glasgow now priced at 7/2.
"If it snows, punters are in for a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year," commented spokesperson Rupert Adams.
Ladbrokes is offering White Christmas odds of 8/1 for Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.

Villa's England contingent back to face Man U
|
Aston Villa's top four credentials will face a fresh examination on Saturday (November 21st), when they entertain Manchester United.
Four members of Martin O'Neill's squad were called up for England's friendly against Germany on Wednesday night, with Gabriel Agbonlahor particularly impressive in his first senior start at international level.
Having avoided injury in Berlin, the quartet return to Premier League duty at Villa Park this weekend, when United will aim to record their 12th consecutive victory over the West Midlands side.
Villa's poor record against the champions means that an away win is priced at 4/5 with Ladbrokes, with victory for O'Neill's side available at 7/2.
However, the pace of Agbonlahor - who scored in his side's 4-1 defeat in the corresponding fixture last season - is likely to worry United and could help Villa break their duck against the north-west outfit.
Paddy Power is offering a money-back special on the game, with all first and last goalscorer, current score and scorecast singles refunded if Agbonlahor nets the first or last goal on Saturday.

Patriotic boxing fans back Hatton
|
Ricky Hatton's fight against US boxer Pauli Malignaggi on Saturday (November 22nd) appears to be inspiring a flurry of patriotic bets at the bookmakers.
William Hill revealed that one of its online customers this week staked £20,000 on Hatton to beat Malignaggi in Las Vegas, with another punter betting £7,500 on the Mancunian fighter.
Spokesperson for the betting firm Graham Sharpe said that 95 per cent of all money staked on the fight so far has been for a Hatton victory, with very few punters backing his New York-based opponent to win.
William Hill offers a range of bets on the fight at the MGM Grand, with 12/1 available on the referee stopping the bout due to cuts on Hatton.
Meanwhile, a points victory for the 30-year-old is priced at 5/6 with Paddy Power, which also offers 7/2 on Hatton winning by a knock-out.
Floyd Mayweather Senior, Hatton's trainer, is certainly confident of a victory for his charge, telling BBC Sport this week that Malignaggi poses "no threat whatsoever".
"Malignaggi's punches are like wind flying across your face," he added.
