Mike Ashley's declaration of his plans to put Newcastle United up for sale has seen odds on the owner leaving before the end of season slashed.
William Hill now makes Ashley an even bet to depart St James' Park before the final Premier League game in May, with the billionaire revealing yesterday that his deteriorating relationship with Newcastle supporters has convinced him to sell the club.
"I am putting the club up for sale. I hope the next owner is someone who can lavish the amount of money on the club that the fans want," he said in a statement.
Saturday's home game against Hull City, which the Magpies lost 2-1, saw a number of protests directed at Ashley and other senior figures at Newcastle such as executive director of football Dennis Wise.
At 4/9, Gus Poyet remains favourite to become the next manager at William Hill, while Ladbrokes has moved Kevin Keegan to the top of the betting at 5/4.
The fans' favourite only resigned earlier this month, but is being tipped to return to Newcastle for a third spell in charge if the club comes under new ownership.
